L’epicondilite è un’infiammazione dei tendini dell’avambraccio che si inseriscono sul gomito, causata, spesso da prolungate ed eccessive tensioni su questi muscoli. Per tensioni intendiamo, degli accorciamenti di determinati muscoli, in particolare quelli che estendono il polso, dovuti a una prolungata posizione di contrazione.

Spesso il dolore insorge dopo sforzi intensi e può intensificarsi fino a diventare invalidante.

Bisogna spiegare che, il gomito non è un’articolazione mobile, infatti, gli unici movimenti sono quelli di estensione, flessione e rotazione dell’avambraccio, invece quelli adiacenti (polso e spalla) sono molto mobili.

Si deduce, perciò, che, uno scorretto posizionamento di una delle due articolazioni mobili, va a imporre al gomito posizioni che non sono naturali, con conseguente accumulo di stress per quest’ultimo.

Nel caso specifico degli allenamenti in palestra, eseguire esercizi in modo scorretto, dovuti o a un carico eccessivo oppure a movimenti scoordinati porta a tale infiammazione.

Un esempio sono le trazioni alla sbarra, dove si può avere:

-Flessione eccessiva del polso, dovuto a una presa errata o perché si cerca di eseguire il movimento a tutti i costi coinvolgendo ulteriori muscoli

-Errato posizionamento della spalla.

Fatta questa premessa, spesso vedo persone che, affette da questa infiammazione, utilizzano (quasi sempre sotto consiglio medico)  gomitiere o tutori per epicondilite.

Va sottolineato che l’uso di tali gomitiere è inutile, perché i responsabili dell’infiammazione non sono i flessori o estensori del gomito (bicipiti  e tricipiti), bensì i flessori di carpo e dita, che lavorano in isometria e fanno inserzione proprio nell’epitroclea nella regione mediale.

Aggiungo inoltre, che bicipiti e tricipiti sono muscoli forti che riescono a recuperare facilmente, mentre i flessori delle dita no.

Non sarebbe più giusto utilizzare una polsiera o un bendaggio al polso proprio per scaricare il fulcro della leva e cioè l’articolazione del carpo?

Come sempre ciò che si legge sui libri medici, spesso e discordante da ciò che il medico consiglia.
